| Sorry Gatsby: ‘Iron Man 3’ Wins Weekend Box Office With $72.5M Posted: 12 May 2013 12:20 PM PDT  Jay Gatsby and company couldn't catch up to Tony Stark's box office party this weekend, as Iron Man 3 sailed to the top for the second weekend in a row. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Marvel blockbuster grossed another $72.5 million in North America, bringing its worldwide total to $950 million. Baz Luhrmann's take on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic didn't bomb at the box office, taking in $51.1 million, but there just wasn't enough horsepower, even with the talents of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. (The film played in fewer theaters as well, 3,535 vs. Iron Man 3's 4,253, as noted on Box Office Mojo). The muscles spectacle otherwise known as Pain and Gain, starring Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg finished the weekend at a distant third place with $5 million. The weekend's other newcomer Tyler Perry Presents Peeples grossed $4.85 million to take fourth place, while the baseball biopic 42 rounded out the top five with $4.65 million. On deck for the summer blockbuster season: Star Trek Into Darkness. |
| Benedict Cumberbatch: You Should Empathize With My ‘Star Trek’ Villain Posted: 12 May 2013 11:25 AM PDT  Without giving too much away, Benedict Cumberbatch is not the good guy in the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness. But according to the star, his character isn't that bad either. "It's really interesting. He's incredibly ambiguous," Cumberbatch told Celebuzz's Cory Lopez. "He's somebody you should have empathy for. His reasoning and intentions are very morally based. He has a real purpose." While that purpose may involve ripping "through the fabric of Starfleet," this villain is not a far cry from Kirk's characteristics. "They're really smart, how they've matched the two," Cumberbatch said. | Seth Meyers Officially Named ‘Late Night’ Host: ‘I Hope I Can Do It Justice’ Posted: 12 May 2013 11:47 AM PDT  After weeks of speculation, NBC made things official on Sunday by confirming that Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyers will be taking over Late Night once Jimmy Fallon begins The Tonight Show. The new job will keep Meyers in the good company of Lorne Michaels, the big boss at SNL and the executive producer of Late Night. Michaels will also serve as executive producer for Fallon's new gig. "We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation . . . His years at SNL's Weekend Update desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise," NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said. [via Entertainment Weekly] Added Meyers: "I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car. 12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice." The 39-year-old joined SNL in 2001 as a cast member before he was promoted to writing supervisor in 2005. In 2006 Meyers became head writer following Tina Fey's exit. In early April, NBC confirmed that Fallon would succeed Jay Leno on The Tonight Show at the conclusion of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The show will also move back to its birthplace of New York City. | Kate Middleton’s Due Date Revealed? Posted: 12 May 2013 10:31 AM PDT  Mark your royal calendars: July 13 may be the day the world will welcome a little prince or princess. The Daily Mail is reporting that Kate Middleton's official due date is July 13 — which is also day three of Queen Elizabeth's four-day Coronation Festival. The festival, held at Buckingham Festival, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation. "Some of Kate and William's closest pals were at a barbecue hosted by a family friend of the royals recently. They were all discussing the fact that Kate's baby is due to be born on July 13. Everyone was very excited," a friend of the royal couple told the Mail. The palace, meanwhile, only said the following over the weekend: "We have only said that the Duchess is due in July. Anything further would be speculation." News of the Duchess of Cambridge's due date comes days after Prince Harry made headlines for reportedly telling "everyone" that his brother Prince William and sister-in-law are having a boy. |

On Saturday, Paul Giamatti got into character as Aleksei Sytsevich (aka. the Rhino) as he filmed scenes for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in Brooklyn, N.Y. The actor was joined by Andrew Garfield, who was spotted chating with his body double. (Hey, two Spideys is better than one). Giamatti's Rhino is the other villain that will be featured in the Marc Webb-directed sequel to the 2012 reboot. In April, fans got a first look at Jamie Foxx as Electro. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due for a May 2, 2014 release. |

On Saturday, the 20-year-old superstar was spotted with her newest accessory — an "I <3 Ellen" pillow as she made her way through Los Angeles International Airport following an appearance at Wango Tango. The pillow was given to Lovato earlier in the week during a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, after the "Heart Attack" singer admitted that she frequently steals pillows from hotels. The episode airs Monday. "It's always better to be safe than sorry and look like an idiot and carry a big pillow through the airport," she said, before Ellen DeGeneres presented her with the gift. At this hallowed eve, every other famous person gathered in their craziest get-ups to celebrate all thinks punk (this year’s theme). With this event came lots of celebrity Tweets and Instagram snaps, which gave us an even more personal behind-the-scenes look at the festivities. Just a few days before flying to New York for the Gala, Nicole Richie posted a picture of herself in front of the famous Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood. The socialite was joined by her equally beautiful friends, Liberty Ross and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. All three of the ladies looked infinitely chic, which foreshadowed Richie and Huntington-Whiteley’s daring looks at the gala, days later. Fast forward to the day of the Met Gala itself: one of its veterans, Kate Bosworth gave us a closeup of her pink, embellished Balmain dress, via Twitter. Uma Thurman also opted for a candid picture of herself in her stunning Zac Posen gown — in the museum bathroom. Candid, indeed! | ‘SNL’ Recap: Kristen Wiig Returns With Target Lady, Ugly Duckling Posted: 12 May 2013 07:42 AM PDT  Kristen Wiig's Saturday Night Live family welcomed her back to Studio 8H with open arms, even though she couldn't remember certain cast mates or her way around the halls. "Even though I left the show only 11 months and 30 days ago, it really feels like it's been a year," she said in her opening monologue, before breaking into song. The cameras then followed Wiig, who left the show last year after seven seasons, as she toured the studio, misidentified players and opened the door to her old dressing room (a closet), only to find Jonah Hill and SNL alum Maya Rudolph making out (they were "making a baby"). The show, which featured Vampire Weekend as musical guests, celebrated Mother's Day with a mock ad for 1-800-Flowers. The return of Wiig also meant the return of some of her best characters, including Target Lady… And the "ugly duckling sister" on The Lawrence Welk Show… We heart you, Kristen Wiig. SNL will wrap season 38 next week with host Ben Affleck and music from Kanye West. |

| Prince Harry Had A Case Of The Giggles At The 2013 Warrior Games Posted: 11 May 2013 03:55 PM PDT  The 2013 Warrior Games opened with a splash of royalty — and a whole lot of laughter — in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Saturday, thanks to HRH Prince Harry of Wales. The 28-year-old, who was in his British Army camouflage, spent his day playing sitting volleyball with members of the British team before lighting the torch with Olympian and new BFF Missy Franklin during the opening ceremony. From the gymnasium to the ceremony stage, it looks like Harry was in good spirits on Saturday. At one point, the third-in-line to the British throne covered up his face in an attempt to contain his laughter. The prince is scheduled to watch the cycling competition on Sunday at the US Air Force Academy, before flying to New Jersey on Monday. | Well Done, Jay-Z: ‘The Great Gatsby’ Soundtrack Could Reach No. 2 On Billboard 200 Posted: 11 May 2013 02:34 PM PDT  The star-studded party otherwise known as Music from Baz Luhrmann's Film The Great Gatsby, aka. The Great Gatsby soundtrack is making plenty of noise in the music world. Billboard is reporting that the Jay-Z produced album, featuring gems from Fergie, Lana Del Rey, Beyonce Knowles (duh) and Jay himself, could sell more than 100,000 copies by the end of its first week of release. Unless it has extra horsepower to plow past Lady Antebellum's latest album Golden (expected to sell some 150,000 copies), the Gatsby soundtrack will most likely debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Baz Luhrmann and Anton Monsted are also producers on the 14-track album. Meanwhile, The Great Gatsby film enjoyed a strong first day, grossing some $19.4 million in North America. According to Box Office Mojo, the film is expected to finish the weekend around the $50 million mark, behind last weekend's box office champion Iron Man 3.
