Courtside Celebrities

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 07:45 AM PDT

When the 2013 NBA Finals tips off Thursday night in Miami’s American Airlines Airlines, you best believe stars will be in the house to watch the showdown between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.

Though their team may no longer be in the running for this year’s title — after all, the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks have been knocked out — celebrities just can’t get enough of the NBA.

From arenas east to west, courtside seats are always riddled with the Hollywood crowd. Not only Knicks fanatic Spike Lee or Laker Show die-hard Jack Nicholson, but the likes of Beyoncé, Ashton Kutcher, Rihanna, Will Smith and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have all been spotted showing love for the sport.

So as we prepare for some star sightings during the NBA season’s final faceoffs, let’s look at all the famous faces that tend pop up courtside.

40 Photos Of Kate Middleton’s Royal Wave

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 02:49 PM PDT

The royal wave was made popular by The Queen Mother, a sort of “How do you do/keep your distance” gesture that made the public love her even more.

The Duchess of Cambridge‘s version, while not nearly as cupped, has made her equally as endearing.

Catherine’s is more of a bashful “Hi! Thanks for coming out to see me,” an extension of her reaction on Buckingham Palace’s balcony on April 29th, 2011.

“Oh wow,” she said, taken aback by the number of people who crowded the mall, eager to get a glimpse of the royal bride.

The public’s adoration is not lost on HRH, who’s always grateful for the flowers and gifts received from well-wishers.  Each person is thanked by the Duchess, and if she isn’t able to reach everyone, Clarence House will sometimes send out a letter to fans on her behalf.

Selena Gomez Is A Gun-Toting Hacker in ‘Getaway’ Trailer

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 12:27 PM PDT

Selena Gomez has decided to give that whole action movie thing a whirl. The “Come & Get It” singer is showing off her edgier side once again in the new trailer for her new film, Getaway.

Gomez stars alongside Ethan Hawke in the Drive meets Speed thriller about a former race-car driver (Hawke) racing against the clock to save his kidnapped wife. Gomez’s character is known simply as “The Kid” and is along for Hawke’s wild ride after an attempted carjacking. High speed antics ensue.

Disney darling Selena is shedding her Wizards of Waverly Place skin by taking on bad-ass roles in films like Spring Breakers and the upcoming Rudderless. She’s also breaking out with a more adult sound on her “Stars Dance” album, which will be released July 23rd.

Aww, Selena is growing up before our very eyes. Check her out in the “Getaway” trailer, above.

Kim Kardashian Has Strong Words For The Paparazzi

Pregnant Kim Kardashian kardashian kollection dress

In the spotlight, all that glitters isn’t gold.

After being ruthlessly hounded by the pesky paparazzi during most of her pregnancy, Kim Kardashian is finally taking a stand.

On Wednesday, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star took to her Twitter to confront the ruthless photographers who will stop at nothing to capture a shot of the mom-to-be and her growing baby bump.

In her rant, the 32-year-old claimed the paparazzi had threatened her life if she didn’t comply to their demands, writing:

I wouldn’t let the paps get a pic of me today & they threatened my life & said if I continue to block shots then they will make my world dangerous to live in! How dare they threaten my life & my unborn child! This has gotten way out of control!

The E! starlet, who is expecting a baby girl with boyfriend Kanye West this summer, also recalled an incident that happened earlier in the week when photographers had been driving dangerously around her for the sake of a snapshot.

Kardashian wrote in multiple tweets:

Yesterday 4 cars boxed me in. One in front, behind, & one on each side just to have me drive at their speed so they can snap through the window. Its really so scary what they are legally allowed to get away with!

For years I’ve always been so gracious. Every shot they take now just isn’t flattering & crazy stories get made up, so why would I willingly just let them stalk me & smile for them? Let me enjoy this last month of pregnancy please without threats & being scared to leave my home due to what dangerous thing they just threatened to do to me.

I get I live a public life. I live my life on a reality show for the world to see. I love my life, but when the cameras stop, that doesn’t mean I don’t want a break too. I’m 32 yrs old now, about to be a mom. I’m not 25 clubbing around LA anymore. There’s no excuse for threats & stalking!

Previously, Kim’s younger sister, Khloe Kardashian, wrote a letter criticizing the backlash the star had received from the media in regards to her pregnancy weight.

“I find it disturbing that society loves to critique a woman’s shape no matter how beautiful or happy she may be within herself. I am a first hand victim to public attacking in regards to my body or appearance. That is low in and of it self. but I can not tolerate one more vicious attack on my sister,” she wrote.

“Stop being so careless with your words… Words are a powerful weapon, all I ask is that you think of the consequences of your words.”

Back Door Drunk Mom: Farrah Abraham’s DUI Guilty Plea Means No Booze For 6 Months

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 12:14 PM PDT

America’s favorite rear-entry portal, Farrah Abraham, has pled guilty to driving while intoxicated last March and was sentenced to six months without alcohol as part of her plea deal, according to TMZ. Abraham was pulled over by police early morning on March 19 for suspicion of drunk driving. It turns out the wily state troopers were correct as Farrah blew a .147 on the breathalyzer during a field sobriety test, which is over the legal limit. A court case ensued, she struck a plea plea deal, and now gets six-month probation, a $500 fine, and one of those ignition lock devices for her car, but thankfully not for her butt hole, which means she can still work during her probation if she so chooses.

Fox Business News Anchors Bash Kelly Cutrone and Working Mothers

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 11:34 AM PDT

In the grand pantheon of shady things Fox News anchors have done/said condemning working mothers is hardly surprising unfortunately. However, it is still wrong.

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant made waves Tuesday when he answered a question about the subpar reading abilities of American youth, blaming working mothers for slipping achievement.

I'm gonna get in trouble if I … you want me to tell the truth? I think parents became, both parents started working, and the mom is in the workplace. It's not a bad thing. I'm gonna get in trouble, I can just see, I can just see the emails tomorrow. But now both parents are working, they're pursuing their careers.

His implication is clear, mothers are focused on their careers and not their children. It’s completely out of the question that, perhaps, women are able to focus on more than one thing in their life. It is also never mentioned that fathers, too, could read with their children once in a while.

For a discussion on Gov. Bryant’s comments, Fox Business News anchors Stuart Varney and Charles Payne invited Kelly Cutrone — of The Hills and Kell on Earth fame – onto their program. Cutrone is the CEO of the company she founded and a single mother as well. I spoke with Cutrone on the phone this afternoon and she told me she expected the show to be a discussion about their difference of opinion, though it quickly turned into an attack.

“I was invited on the show and thought Stuart Varney would take the Varney route and I would take the Cutrone route and it would be a good discussion,” Cutrone said.

Varney and Payne quickly laid into Cutrone, making it clear they weren’t so much interested in what she had to say as they were having someone besides the camera lens to yell at. The most telling part is when Payne asks Cutrone “Do you have a man? Are you married? Why not? What happened?” as if to accuse her of something horrible.

“I was pretty shocked by the whole thing to be honest with you,” Cutrone told me. “I was pretty shaken up by it. I’m not crying about it. I’m fine. I just don’t think it was a very good interview. It was like a Saturday Night Live sketch.”

I reached out to Fox Business News for comment as well, though they have not responded.

‘Paranoia’ Trailer: Liam Hemsworth Goes Shirtless, Goes Undercover

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 10:34 AM PDT

Liam Hemsworth puts on a mean American accent and flaunts his pretty boy looks in the trailer for the upcoming thriller Paranoia.

The film, out this summer, finds the Australian hunk wooing Amber Heard, taking off his shirt more than once and rubbing shoulders with people from a world rich with fancy suits and cars — all while spying on a tech company rival (Harrison Ford) for a big time CEO (Gary Oldman).

When things start to go south, Hemsworth's character strives to "make this right" with his tech skills (and his good looks too, probably).

Paranoia, directed by Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, Monster-in-Law), opens in theaters Aug. 16.

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran Pay Homage to Childhood Courtship in “Everything Has Changed” Music Video

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 08:56 AM PDT

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran are looking back on simpler days, when she was just a girl and he was just a boy.

In the music video for their tender duet, “Everything Has Changed,” what are seemingly Swift and Sheeran mini-mes live out a classic love story, elementary school-style.

After a golden-haired little girl boards a school bus to meet a ginger-haired little boy, the two smitten schoolmates share in small joys throughout the day: lunching atop the monkey bars, making arts and crafts, playing knight and princess in a school production, and slow-dancing in an empty gymnasium.

Pint-sized Sheeran even romances his BFF, sweetly strumming a guitar for her and reading Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook aloud as she she rests at his feet. Ah, young love.

When the school bell rings, there’s finally a glimpse of the grown-up, real-life Swift and Sheeran, as they pick up their respective little lookalikes from school. Swift and Sheeran share a short, knowing glance, before strolling off their separate ways.

‘Sex and the City’: What Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha Were Doing 15 Years Ago, Today

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 09:28 AM PDT

Fifteen years ago today, HBO debuted Sex and the City, a comedy of sorts about four single women living, working and trying to find love in the concrete jungle that is New York. Very quickly, the show went on to become one of the most discussed, debated and important shows in modern-day history, for reasons that were both good and, well, not.

But back on June 6, 1998, it was just a rusty pilot, in which protagonist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her three girlfriends — Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) — openly (and, by 1998′s standards, frankly) discussed the pros and cons of sex vs. love, sometimes to each other, other times to the camera. (Thankfully, that quirk disappeared midway through season 2.)

So what were Carrie and the girls doing back then? For those who can’t remember, here’s a little refresher.

CARRIE BRADSHAW

At the start of the show, Carrie, a cynical-hopeful sex columnist for the fictional New York Star, debates a question that would remain a constant throughout the show’s six-season run: Was it still possible to find love in Manhattan? Or were all women destined to keep living in the sex-driven age of uninnocence (show’s pun, not mine) while they dreamed about marrying Alec Baldwin? Her fashion was a bit on the rough side (that hair!) but even then she knew a thing or two about trends. (Manolo Blahnink strappy sandals are mentioned around the four-minute mark.)

After her British friend Elizabeth (who, like many of the show’s early secondary characters, was never to be seen or heard from again) is unceremoniously dumped by a well-to-do banker, Carrie heads to Miranda’s drag queen-infused birthday dinner, where she and the girls debate whether love is indeed dead. It is there in which Samantha informs everyone that, for the first time in history, women are as rich and powerful as men. Which, of course, means they can have sex like them, too.

This leads Carrie to the Thought Heard Round the World about nine minutes in:

Was it true? Were women in New York really giving up on love and throttling up on power?

She decides to test her theory by sleeping with “the loathe of her life,” Kurt Harrington, after running into him at a bar. (Hey, it’s research!) The plan, in which she will have a pleasurable, but emotionless, relationship, works swimmingly — that is, until she accidentally drops condoms (ultra-textured Trojans with a reservoir tip, for those keeping score at home), in front of a charming, attractive man on the street. Of course, this man, named Mr. Big (or, John James Preston, ugh), would eventually become Carrie’s husband by the time those crap-awful movies came about. But in that moment, he was just That Really Handsome Guy Who Once Wore Cool Ties on Law and Order.

This being television and not real life, Carrie bumps into Mr. Big again at a club called Chaos, which is described as a modern-day Cheers, where “everyone knows your name, except here they were likely to forget it five minutes later.” Fun! They flirt, and chat and get all intellectual about things. Then, on the car ride home, Carrie poses her sex vs. love theory to Big, who, ha, laughs in her face because it’s obvious to him that she’s never been in love before. Carrie quickly freezes in her place thanks to some handy-dandy post-camera editing, and is left to think about that on-and-off for the next six years.

And voila! A show is born.

MIRANDA HOBBES

Miranda, a cynical corporate lawyer, is sick and tired of dating in Manhattan when we first meet her, and spends much of her time ordering crappy food at delis and complaining about things in parks (which, again, would become another one of the show’s constants).

But because she’s now in her thirties, she refuses to settle. Which makes things very difficult when Carrie sets her up with Skipper Johnston, a website creator and hopeless romantic. They have their first date at Chaos (where else?) and it goes pretty badly, but not so badly enough that she can’t go home and sleep with him. (Hey, men do it, too!)

Skipper would stick around for about a season in change — basically until the writers created the similar-acting Steve Brady and cast the similar-looking David Eigenberg to play him. (Steve, of course, knocked up and married Miranda in the end.)

CHARLOTTE YORK

Charlotte, an optimistic art dealer, chooses Team Love early on in the episode, a team she would continue to support through two marriages and six seasons. (Constants!) She tests her own theory out on Capote Duncan, one of the city’s “most notoriously ungettable bachelors.” They go to a cocktail event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the date goes so well that she agrees to go back to his apartment. But since Charlotte can’t buy into the sex-over-love theory (she just wanted to see his artwork), she calls it an early night and hails a cab home to W. 4th and Bank.

Unfortunately, that address turns out to be music to Capote Duncan’s ears, because — gasp — it’s close to Chaos! So, deciding that he “really needs to have sex tonight,” he shares a cab with Charlotte downtown, never to see her again. (Hey, maybe he hooked up with Elizabeth in the end.)

SAMANTHA JONES

In our first encounter with Samantha, a sex-obsessed something-or-other, she’s talking all about her ex, Drew, and how he taught her that, yep, women can have sex like men and it can be wonderful. (Whaddya know? Another constant.) She’s a beautiful, successful woman who, as Carrie would later describe, “had the kind of deluded self-confidence that caused men like Ross Perot to run for president.”

And it’s this self-deluded confidence that leads her to hit on Mr. Big, whom she describes to Carrie as “the next Donald Trump, except he’s younger and much better looking” when she sees him at Chaos, of all places. Unfortunately, Big prefers love to sex, leaving Samantha’s whole theory in peril as she’s left to drink alone in the dark shadows of that stupid-looking club. (Seriously, what the hell was that place?)

But wait! Because this is still television and not real life, Samantha eventually gets her moment in the spotlight when she and Chaos’ other sex-hungry patron, Capote Duncan, meet, go back to his apartment and have man-style sex, which was hopefully never discussed with Charlotte.

So, that was the set-up for the show, which, for all of its pilot-happy flaws, actually managed to lay out a solid and consistent foundation for its four main characters. The quality of their subsequent storylines is a whole other issue, but let’s save that thought for another anniversary.

This Is Where Baby Everly Tatum Will Call Home

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 12:29 PM PDT

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's Home

New parents Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum will have plenty of domestic bliss to look forward to when they return to their Hollywood Hills home from Across the Pond with new bundle of joy, Everly.

So where will mommy and daddy put the nursery?

The Magic Mike star, who's currently filming sci-fi thriller Jupiter Ascending in London, is going to have to transform his bachelor pad in the celeb enclave of Laurel Canyon in the Hollywood Hills into a childproof haven.

Good thing this hillside retreat is already fit for three.

Channing splashed out $2.595 million on the uber-private 3-bedroom, 3,000 square-foot abode in 2008, the same year his star (and sex symbol) status really took off in the film Stop-Loss. And in 2009, he tied the knot with Dewan, 32, his co-star in Step Up.

The new family — who revealed their little girl’s sweet moniker in a message via Channing’s official website just days after her birth May 31 – is sure to spend loads of down time in the den/media room cozying up by the fireplace.

But that's not the housewarming feature in the home, that’s been described as a “Balinese tree house.”

Other unique characteristics include a bonus floor, second-floor master suite with floor-to-ceiling windows, wraparound terraces, 12-foot pitched wood and beam ceilings, curved teak staircase, and flagstone fireplaces and patios.

And outside, there's more than enough room for when the extended families come to stay (they’ll have a guest house all to themselves) and celebrate baby Everly's arrival on the bluestone slate entertainment patio or take a dip in the swimming pool.

The bonafide movie star, 33, is in good Hollywood company when it comes to who once called this place home. The house was formerly owned by director Ron Shelton, who helmed flicks like Bull Durham and White Men Can't Jump. And it's just around the corner from the one-time home of Duran Duran's John Taylor.

Watch One Reporter’s Classic Reaction to a Magic Trick

In this world of constant hustle and bustle, it’s nice to know that some things can still amaze us. Like magic, for instance.

KTLA’s Allie MacKay was stunned by a trick Justin Willman performed on the station’s morning show this week. In her defense, it was 6:45 in the morning. The trick is good, but the reaction is great.

Another ‘Real Housewife’ Goes Broke

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 06:40 AM PDT

Peggy Tanous Files Bankruptcy

Real Housewives in financial trouble is all too familiar.

Only now, former O.C. Housewife Peggy Tanous can add her name to the ever-expanding list.

The ex reality star declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy in March, according to court docs obtained by Celebuzz, and lists her liabilities on the Summary of Schedules at $2.16 million — most of which include home loans and property taxes.

Others include over $70,000 in credit card claims and $10,000 for a book contract.

This is a far cry from the housewife once described as the "wealthy Orange County party girl" who loves "her bling, Bentley, and plastic surgery." But that bling is not so blingy nowadays given that she lists the values of her home furniture and clothing at $550 each, $1,150 in jewelry and zero cash in the bank.

The former model (who filed under four names — Peggy Colleen Farney, Margaret Colleen Farney, Peggy Tyler and Tanous) also claims her assets as $840,000 for her Irvine, Calif. home, $2,500 a month in “non-court ordered” child support income, yet $3,200 in monthly expenses and an annual income of only $30,000.

In another detail, Tanous also cites her marital status as single. So does that mean she’s no longer with her internet entrepreneur husband Micah?

Despite listing "divorced" in the court docs filed March 7 and "single" in amended papers April 11, it looks like they’ve been taking to social media as a happy couple before and after she filed bankruptcy — with pics on Twitter of Tanous still wearing her massive diamond wedding ring alongside her hubby and writing to a fan May 21: "Being married is awesome!!"

She even refers to Micah as her “awesome hubby" June 4 and their date nights from Jan. 20 (below) to June 1.

And despite Peggy filing bankruptcy, they're still living large.

Going to a fashion show on June 3 (and a fitting just days before).

Buying flashy cars: "Having fun with my newest toy," posted Micah on Feb. 28 taking a pic of his Hummer on Twitter, while Peggy wrote May 18, "Cruising in the new H1 today! Love this thing!"

And you can't forget the Bentley: "Think I should paint my Bentley hood like this? Hmm, tuff call!" he wrote Oct. 14.

There are also luxe outings, including a photo of the husband and wife going wine tasting April 7 in a limo.

She even writes via social media that her talk show starts filming later in the month and she's apparently working on a fitness DVD, despite claiming in court papers she’s unemployed.

According to the filed documents, Peggy further reveals there's no equity in her home (which was advertised to go up for auction March 22) and through loan remodification she hopes to “save” it.

But diehard Housewives fans know all too well that her money troubles began before she quit the show in October 2011 when she stated on her Facebook that she "declined” an invitation to return for season 7, adding that she didn't want to be around the "negative energy of certain cast members" and didn't want to be forced to "have ‘dramatic’ confrontations.”

Earlier that same year, the 43-year-old mother of two reportedly faced losing her $1.3 million dollar Irvine, Calif. mansion to foreclosure and filed a lawsuit against the banks in an effort to keep it.

To be fair, it looks like she had enough drama off screen to keep her busy without the constant catfighting.

So Tanous now joins the ranks of nine other housewives (and house hubbies) who've had to file for protection against creditors — O.C.'s Alexis and Jim Bellino, Simon Barney, Lynne and Frank Curtain; NJ's Jacqueline and Chris Laurita, Teresa and Joe Giudice; ATL's Lisa Wu Hartwell, 90210's Taylor and Russell Armstrong, D.C.'s Michaele and Tareq Salahi, and NYC's Sonja Morgan.

When contacted by Celebuzz, Peggy responded via text, “I bought a $500K rental property that was later worth $100K, bad investment, big deal.”

Khloe Kardashian Explains Kris And Bruce Jenner’s Living Situation On ‘The Tonight Show’

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 06:51 AM PDT

While Bruce Jenner gave Jimmy Fallon a stern talking-to, Khloe Kardashian had a fine chat with Jay Leno in Burbank last night.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians premiered its eighth season June 2nd, the same day Kim Kardashian‘s baby shower took place in Beverly Hills.  Khloe talked about the do (she’s expecting a girl with Kanye West), and how much her mother and Bruce’s living arrangement bugs her.

Khloe wore a Kardashian Kollection navy and black colorblock dress for her appearance, and took her seat next to This Is The End‘s Danny McBride.

Justin Bieber Signs Up for a Space Voyage

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 07:08 AM PDT

Soon, there will be a little more swagger in space.

Justin Bieber has become the latest star — along with his manager Scooter Braun — to set sights on the final frontier by signing up for a flight with Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson‘s venture to send tourists into space.

“Great to hear @justinbieber & @scooterbraun are latest @virgingalactic future astronauts,” Virgin’s billionaire founder tweeted. “Congrats, see you up there!”

The “Boyfriend” singer joins the a slew of other A-list stars, like Ashton Kutcher and allegedly Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, in dropping big bucks for suborbital spaceflight. Just how much? Well, a ticket for a seat aboard Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo rocket plane recently shot up from $200,000 to $250,000. In other words, not even a dent in Bieber’s estimated $10 million net worth.

While there’s no word on when Bieber will achieve liftoff, SpaceShipTwo did recently complete a flight test in California and commercial operations could begin at Spaceport America in New Mexico as early as next year.

So, get your space boots ready, Biebs!

Your Complete Guide to the 2013 Tony Awards

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 09:07 AM PDT

The Tony Awards are on Sunday! Which probably means nothing for most of America.

But for high school theater nerds and gay men like myself, it’s the chance to catch one of the few awards shows that still knows how to be both interesting and entertaining.

Granted, neither of those words can be used to describe this year’s crop of nominated shows (A Christmas Story for Best Musical? Really?); but do you really want to miss the rare chance to see Tom Hanks and Cyndi Lauper win the same prize on the same night?

If you answered that question with a “no!”, continue reading this post for a complete guide to this year’s telecast. Otherwise, enjoy baseball, I guess?

Matilda Is Probably Going to Win
Although it didn’t get the most nominations, Matilda enters Sunday with the best reviews and buzz of the season, which should be enough to take the night’s most coveted award, Best Musical. Tony voters love a hit!

But Cyndi Lauper Might, Too
Lauper’s uplifting score for Kinky Boots also earned raves, and her famous status could give her the edge over Matilda’s Tim Minchin in the race for Best Original Score. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to see Cyndi Lauper win a Tony?

Neil Patrick Harris Is Hosting
After a successful run last year, NPH will take the stage to celebrate Broadway before he does the exact same thing for television at the Emmys this fall.

Best Actress in a Play Is Apparently the Most Competitive Category
All five ladies in this category — Laurie Metcalf, Amy Morton, Kristine Nielsen, Cicely Tyson and maybe Holland Taylor — have a decent shot at winning. Conventional wisdom seems to agree that 79-year-old Tyson will take home the Tony for her well-received performance in The Trip to Bountiful; but it could also go to Metcalf for her devastating performance as a woman battling dementia in The Other Place, or maybe Morton for going toe-to-toe with Tracy Letts in ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ Either way, this one is A Race.

Which Probably Can’t Be Said About Best Actor
Sometimes, Tony voters can’t resist a star turn from a mega-Hollywood player, even when said star doesn’t actually deserve to win. In other words: Look for Tom Hanks to charm his way to a victory here for his Broadway debut in the late Nora Ephron’s ‘The Lucky Guy.’ Because, c’mon, it’s Tom Hanks!

Scarlett Johansson Is Presenting
Speaking of stars: Scarlett Johansson, who won her own Tony in 2010 for ‘A View From the Bridge,’ is one of the Many Famous Faces who will be presenting at this year’s ceremony. Also presenting: Cuba Gooding Jr.; and, yes, Tom Hanks.

Judith Light Could Go Two-for-Two
Light finally got her moment in the Tony spotlight last year when she won Best Featured Actress in a Play for ‘Other Desert Cities.’ Will she repeat this year for ‘The Assembled Parties’? It’s possible; but with a category that also includes Condola Rashad (The Trip to Bountiful) and Judith Ivy (The Heiress), it won’t be easy.

Best Direction of a Musical Is a Toss-Up
Will voters go with Matthew Warchus for his edgy take on a Roald Dahl classic? Or will they choose Diane Paulus’ inventive work on Pippin, instead? I don’t know. I’m asking you.

So Is Best Actress
With the four youngsters from Matilda receiving a special award, Best Actress will essentially come down to Laura Osnes, who was great in Cinderella, and Patina Miller, who reinvented a role originated by a man in Pippin. Who will win? I’ll actually answer this one and go with Miller, if only because I still haven’t forgiven Osnes for her turn in Grease: You’re The One That I Want.

That Girl From That Kathie Lee Gifford Musical Is Nominated
Carolee Carmello somehow managed to get nominated for ‘Scandalous,’ a show that closed after three weeks and was written by Kathie Lee Gifford. Which should give you an idea of how weak this season really was.

Orphans Is Nominated; Alec Baldwin Was Not
All that backstage drama between Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf resulted in just two Tony nominations for the now-closed Orphans: one for Best Rival of a Play; the other, ironically, for their former co-star, Tom Sturridge.

The Tony Awards air Sunday night at 8PM on CBS.

Carey Mulligan Frontrunner for Hillary Clinton Biopic

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 05:11 AM PDT

Actress Carey Mulligan, of all people, is reportedly the top choice to play former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in director James Ponsoldt’s upcoming biopic Rodham, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The 27-year-old Brit, who recently coasted her way through The Great Gatsby, will sit down with Ponsoldt to discuss the project in the coming days. Sources add that both sides are already willing to strike a deal.

Still, given the high-profile nature of the role, sources claim that  nothing has been set in stone yet, and that other actresses are still being considered for the part.

Among those previously listed to be interested in the project, which traces the early days of Clinton’s career as an up-and-coming lawyer in the 1970s: Scarlett Johansson; Reese Witherspoon; and Jessica Chastain.

Sorry, Amy Poehler!

Words Of Wisdom To Amanda Bynes’ Parents From Lark Voorhies Mom

Lark Voorhies Mom Gives Amanda Bynes' Parents Some Advice

It was only eight months ago that Lark Voorhies‘ bizarre behavior was the focus of media attention, not Amanda Bynes.

For those of you who need a reminder, Lark (fondly remembered as Lisa Turtle) grew up on the small screen as a cast member on the hit series Saved By The Bell. And while most of the cast went on to successful Hollywood careers, Lark kept a low profile until last year when her odd behavior during a Yahoo! video interview went viral and later during a PEOPLE interview when it was reported she often stopped “mid-sentence” and would "star off often mumbling to herself” made quite a stir.

But it was her mom, Tricia Voorhies, who revealed to the world that her 39-year-old daughter had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and refused to be placed under professional care, which Lark adamantly denied.

Today, it's Amanda’s wacky (and often disturbing) antics that have led many to question if the 27-year-old’s Twitter rants (taking aim at everyone from Rihanna to RuPaul), shaved head, often disheveled appearance, multiple arrests and alleged drug use are indicative of a mental illness.

Take it from someone who’s been through the media scrutiny and the downward spiral of a daughter who was once a child star, Tricia has some words of wisdom for Amanda’s parents in an interview with Celebuzz.

On What The Bynes Family Can Do:

"I'm sure her family loves her very much, but there's nothing her family can do under these circumstances, short of them being able to kidnap her and sequester her.

“Because she's an adult, she's in a position to take care of herself. They can't just go into her dwelling without legal authority.

“But be there for her. Give her as much love as you can and it will hopefully turn around. I don't know if it will, but it certainly can. I can empathize with her family."

On Dealing With The Media Attention:

"Say nothing whatsoever and err on the side of caution because this is someone you love.

"It can get distorted and even one comment can go through one form of media to another and go beyond what it should. It's a poison pen, no matter what you say."

On The Positive Side:

"She's not the first artist to go off left field and do strange behavior. She won't be the first and she won't be the last. But then it's a thing of the past and people are only talking about the good news. People forget the bad.

"That can turn around for Amanda Bynes and also for my daughter."

On The Twitter Attacks Against Her Parents:

"She doesn't want them meddling in her business. Family does because they care. When you meddle it's out of caring and loving, but they can be resentful. Those closest to you are the easiest to hit.

"Whatever she is going through there is a possibility it can wear off at some point — whatever is impacting her and her thought process. Something has caused her to take a left turn in her life because she wasn't like this before."

On How Lark Is Doing Today:

"The relationship between her and I has been much better. She's focusing on specific areas she wants to explore in the entertainment industry and feels very confident she'll be able to return to the spotlight.

"Lark lives with me. It just makes more sense under the circumstances until she has better alternatives and more steady income.

"My daughter wasn't happy that I said she was bipolar. But I was really concerned about her well being. My focus was on my daughter, just like I'm sure the Bynes family. They are focused on their daughter and have a big challenge."
